SHC Green Cooking Welcome Letter, (which was already emailed to you)

Dear Green Cooking Families,

I look forward to welcoming your child to SHC next week for Green Cooking Camp. Here are a few informational items:

Drop off/pickup – Please arrive a few minutes by 9 am to check-in on Monday. The Camp will begin and end each day on the La Salle Campus located at 1055 Ellis Street between Franklin and Gough. We will start most days in room 401, which is one floor up from the main floor of the La Salle building. The exception for this will be THURSDAY, JULY 2nd, when we will begin our day at the San Francisco Food Bank, located at 900 Pennsylvania Ave. Please plan to drop off your child there between 8:45 and 9am. Our volunteer shift begins at 9am. At the end of each class, I will walk the children to the front doors at 1055 Ellis Street.

Breakfast Club/Extended Care – Campers registered for our breakfast club can be dropped off in our Founders Dining Room any time after 7:30 am. Enter on Ellis St. at the corner of Gough St. and follow the signage to the designated room. Late pickup will also be available till 5 pm in the Founders Dining Room for registered campers. Registered campers will be walked to the Founders Dining Room at 3 pm and checked-in. Parents are required to come in and sign campers out by 5 pm. Please be on time.

Lunch – Lunch is included! Each camper will be offered a daily hot lunch in our dining hall, and will have a bag lunch on the days that we are “out & about” for field trips. If your camper has special dietary needs, please be sure to pack food for the day.

What to bring – Please be ready to fully participate in the camp. Campers can bring snacks, a water bottle and sunscreen for field trips. Please wear closed-toe shoes everyday. No flip-flops are allowed for safety reasons.

Field Trips – Campers should dress appropriately for the weather. Students might want to consider bringing a backpack for lunch, (on the days we will have our lunch “on the road”) and for a jacket. We will be going to several Farmers Markets and grocery stores. When an activity calls for students to purchase food, I will provide the funds. If students would like to bring a little extra spending money for those field trips, they are welcome to. We will be walking or taking public transportation to all of our field trips, so please make sure your child has a clipper card or bus fare on those days. I am still finalizing some times for the field trips, but will forward you the permission slip once those details are firmed up.

Communication – I will be keeping a blog for this class here. It will be an excellent way for you and your child to keep track of what we are doing as well as to view some supplementary materials I will supply. I will also be tweeting about the class @christine_buell with the hashtag #shcsummer. Should you need to contact me directly, please email me at cbuell@shcp.edu. Additionally, I will be giving those students who have a cell phone my cell phone number (415.203.2468) so they can contact me when we are on field trips. Feel free to use that in an emergency.

If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact me. See you next week!
